Solar Battery Installations Across Newcastle & the Hunter

VoltX Energy has installed several solar batteries across Newcastle and the Hunter, with installations spanning the region from Newcastle and Lake Macquarie through to Maitland and surrounding areas.

Every home is different, which is why we look at the property, existing solar system, electricity usage, and available installation space before recommending a battery. Browse some of our recent local installations below.

Areas We Service Across Newcastle & the Hunter

We provide solar battery Newcastle installations, allowing homeowners to store more of their solar energy and take greater control over when they draw power from the grid. Our service area extends across eligible locations throughout Newcastle and the wider Hunter, subject to postcode, site requirements and availability.

Newcastle City & Inner Suburbs

From established cottages and terraces around Newcastle, Cooks Hill and Hamilton to older homes in Mayfield and Waratah, properties here can have tighter blocks and less straightforward equipment access. We assess the available wall, garage, and side-access options before installation.

Lake Macquarie

Lake Macquarie homes range from established brick properties around Charlestown and Cardiff to waterfront and lakeside homes around Belmont, Valentine and Swansea. Existing solar, switchboard capacity,y and available wall space can all affect the installation.

Wallsend, Fletcher, & the Western Corridor

The western side of Newcastle includes established suburbs alongside newer developments in Fletcher, Minmi, and Cameron Park. Newer homes may have more straightforward installation space, while existing systems still need to be checked for compatibility.

Maitland & Thornton

Around Maitland, East Maitland and Rutherford, you'll find a mix of established homes and newer builds. We consider existing solar, inverter configuration, and available installation space, particularly where a home is already set up for future energy upgrades.

Port Stephens

Homes around Port Stephens can face more exposure to coastal conditions, making equipment placement and protection important. We assess the proposed location alongside the home's existing electrical and solar setup before recommending a system.

Cessnock, Kurri Kurri, & the Hunter Valley

From established homes in Cessnock and Kurri Kurri to properties around Branxton and Pokolbin, homes across the Valley can have very different energy requirements and site conditions. Your usage data and property assessment help determine the right setup.

Upper Hunter

Further inland, homes around Singleton, Muswellbrook, Denman, Scone, and Dungog can have larger blocks and different access considerations. We assess the property and existing electrical setup rather than assuming the same installation approach will suit every home.

Where a Battery Can Go in a Newcastle or Hunter Home

Not every home is a fit for solar batteries in Newcastle, NSW, and we'd rather tell you that upfront than after a quote.

What a site assessment checks:

  • Clearances from doors and windows
  • Ventilation
  • Proximity to fuel sources
  • Access for servicing
  • Existing solar and inverter setup
  • Switchboard capacity and available installation space

All of it is governed by AS/NZS 5139, the standard that sets out battery positioning, clearances, and protection from hazards for home solar battery storage in Sydney installs. Full detail on what the standard requires is on our NSW installation page.

Adding a Battery to Existing Solar

If you're adding storage to an existing system, we'll check the inverter's age and type, your solar array size, switchboard capacity, and whether the system can support a battery. If the existing inverter isn't suitable, AC coupling may allow the new battery to work alongside it rather than replacing the whole solar system.

Backup During Outages

A battery can keep selected essential circuits running during an outage, but it won't necessarily power the whole house. We'll explain what your proposed backup setup can realistically support before installation.

Grid connection requirements and export conditions are set by the electricity distributor for your address, and we'll handle the relevant application as part of the process.

Local Considerations

  • Inner-Newcastle cottages and terraces can have narrow blocks, limited side access and less obvious places for equipment. Wall space, access, and the position of existing electrical equipment all need to be considered.

  • Lake Macquarie's established brick homes often have more straightforward garage or side-wall options, but existing solar and switchboard capacity still need to be checked before adding storage.

  • Newer homes around Maitland, Thornton and Cameron Park may have more suitable installation space and newer electrical infrastructure, but the existing inverter and system configuration still determine what's possible.

  • Coastal homes around Newcastle's beaches, Stockton and Port Stephens need extra consideration around exposure to salt air. Equipment placement and protection are assessed as part of the site assessment.

Possible Limitations

Apartments and most strata properties generally can't take a home solar battery, mainly because of shared electrical infrastructure, common areas and battery positioning requirements.

Older homes and properties with restricted access aren't automatically ruled out, but nothing gets promised until the site has been assessed.

We'll walk you through what's realistic for your specific place before you commit to anything.

What Our Customers Say

Stellar Workmanship and Professional Installation

“VoltX Energy's customer service and workmanship has been stellar. They are also very competitive. The technical team is well-versed in all aspects of battery and electrical technology. I had my 48kW system installed within 4 days of paying my nominal deposit. The installation team were very professional and collaborative. They did a super neat job taking the cabling through our double brick walls and through the roof cavity to the meter box. They installed the additional circuit breaker at the main power board and connected everything up very professionally. They cleaned up after the work and left the place tidy.”

Ram, NSW

Huge Difference in Our Monthly Electricity Bill

“Our electricity bills, even with solar and a small battery, were still $400-$600 per month, so we got a VoltX Energy system installed. From receiving the quote to installation was about a week! We realized our usage was so high we struggled to charge the battery, but they set it up so we could get a feed-in from the grid at off-peak. Changed providers and now our bill is around $170 per month! It definitely has made a huge difference. Everyone we have dealt with has been amazing.”

Clay Potts, NSW

Professional Setup Built for Smart Off-Peak Charging

“I got the VoltX Energy battery system installed at our semi. The installation team were very quick and efficient and installed the system exactly where I wanted it with minimal disruption. There were no hidden extra costs. The system works perfectly with no problems. Once setup, it’s easy to see consumption from the batteries. If the batteries need a grid top-up, you can set the recharge time to when the rates are the lowest cost for you, taking full advantage of off-peak pricing.”

Frequently Asked Questions

How much is a solar battery in Newcastle?

The cost depends on the battery capacity, your home's electrical supply, whether you're adding storage to existing solar, the inverter configuration, and any site-specific electrical work required.

VoltX Energy currently advertises eligible battery systems from $3,999, including the Alpha ESS Solar Battery. The advertised price includes applicable incentives and promotional pricing, but the final price depends on your eligibility and technical requirements.

Which Newcastle and Hunter suburbs and postcodes do you service?

We service eligible locations across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie, Maitland, Port Stephens and the wider Hunter region. This includes areas such as Newcastle, Cooks Hill, Hamilton, Charlestown, Warners Bay, Wallsend, Maitland, Raymond Terrace, Medowie, Cessnock and Singleton.

Service availability can vary by address, so we'll confirm your suburb and postcode before proceeding. In case you postcode or suburb is not on the list, you may still fill-out this form so we can add you on our waitlist. You'll be one of the first to know in case we start installing on your suburb.

Do you install solar batteries in Maitland and Lake Macquarie?

Yes. VoltX Energy provides battery installation across selected locations in Newcastle and the Hunter, including eligible homes in Maitland and Lake Macquarie.

We'll assess your existing solar, electrical setup, available installation space, and site access before recommending a system.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar panels?

In many cases, yes. We check your existing inverter, solar array, switchboard, and overall system configuration first. If your current inverter isn't suitable for battery storage, an AC-coupled system may allow a battery to be added without replacing the existing solar system.

What solar and battery promotions Newcastle homeowners can access right now?

VoltX Energy currently advertises eligible battery systems from $3,999, with promotional pricing reflecting applicable government incentives and VoltX Energy discounts. Offers are subject to eligibility, availability, and technical assessment, so check our promotions page for the latest details before requesting a quote.

How long does solar battery installation Newcastle homeowners can expect usually take?

The installation timeline depends on the system, property, and any required electrical or grid-connection work. Your actual timeframe will be confirmed once your site requirements and approvals have been assessed.

Will a battery keep my power on during an outage?

It can, if backup is included and configured for your system. Backup can be set up to keep selected essential circuits operating, but it doesn't necessarily power the entire home.

What size solar battery do I need for a Newcastle home?

The right size depends on your electricity usage, solar generation, when you use power, and whether backup is important to you.

Rather than choosing a battery based only on the size of your solar panels, we look at your actual usage data and existing system. Our team can then recommend a suitable solar battery storage Newcastle solution based on how your household uses energy.
